I’m gonna hold my hand up and say I’m starting to get a little bored of pop-punk. With the intense surge of UKPP bands in 2015, it’s all become a whirlpool of feels and snapbacks that fails to impress.
Then the new Hungover track came into my life and I rejoiced that pop-punk was still alive and great. Sure, it’s a little cliché – it’s about a girl – but within the first ten seconds I was hooked. Line and sinker. The chorus is bouncier than an inflatable castle and the chugging guitars and sickly sweet vocals remind me of why I fell in love with this genre in the first place. We need more bands like Hungover. We need them to keep the pop-punk scene as exciting as it has been.
Although you may be thinking, “Really? Another pop-punk band?” Bristol five-piece Tuskens are following closely in the footsteps of bands such as ROAM and Trash Boat and they’re catching up with them real quick.
New single ‘Paperweight’ kicks off their 2016 brilliantly, with a lyrical focus on the hardships of growing up and the emotional and personal struggles we all deal with, Tuskens are tapping into an audience that are trying to make sense of their lives and they’re here to help.
There is no denying that pop-punk is becoming an overcrowded scene, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great. Tuskens are really great and you can be great too if you give them a moment of your time.
