Dearist are gearing up release their second album ‘Sonder’ on April 27 and we’re bringing you an exclusive first play of ‘Beaches’, taken from the record. ‘Sonder’ will be release through Spartan Records and can be pre-ordered here.
“‘Beaches’ was one of those songs that happened very naturally,” drummer Jimmy Taylor explains. “The foundation of the song was built from the intro riff, and everything else fell fairly easily into place. We were conscious of creating a chorus that was catchy, but was slightly more chilled out. In contrast, whilst it carries its own energy, it helps the other parts of the song really cut through.”
Vocalist Adam Binder adds: “Lyrically the concept is pretty simple. I was thinking about the album concept (‘Sonder’ – the realisation that everyone has a complex life happening at the same time as your own) and I realised that you can never truly know what someone else is thinking. There is always a secret conversation going on in everyone’s own head. So that’s what the lyrics are about, those secret conversations we all have with ourselves. I hope everyone else has those secret talks with themselves, else I’ve got problems.”
