Roses are red, violets are blue, sometimes valentines sucks but Punktastic still loves you! Check out our sad / break up playlist with songs chosen by some of our favourite bands.
‘Ode to Divorce‘ by Regina Spektor
The first track was chosen by Shauna from Rews: “This song is wonderful and I think it speaks so honestly about that feeling of heartbreak!”
‘In The Water, I Am Beautiful‘ by City And Colour
Chosen by Skies In Motion: “Music doesn’t get more heart-wrenching than what Dallas Green comes up with. This song is beautiful.”
‘Sorrow’ by The National
Chosen by Jon Vernon from Canvas: “Genuinely makes me sad even thinking about it.”
‘Thinkin Bout You’ by Frank Ocean
Chosen by Ciaran Scanlon from Fizzy Blood: “This is a very difficult one as there is so many to choose from, but I will have to say any track from Frank Oceans ‘Channel Orange’. That album has got me through some dark times.’
‘Lover, Please Stay’ by Nothing but Thieves chosen by Collette from Rews
‘When I Was Your Man’ by Bruno Mars
Chosen by Blindwish: “Just an amazingly well written song.”
‘Last Goodbye’ by Jeff Buckley
Chosen by Archie Cruz from Santa Cruz: “A beautiful, beautiful tune.”
‘Turn Around‘ by Whiskeytown
Chosen by Seb Dokman from Paceshifters: “We are all huge Ryan Adams fans. And this Whiskeytown song always hits me where it hurts.”
‘Tear‘ by Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Chosen by Lewis Knaggs of Lullaby: “Sorry to be morbid but this is one of those songs that could be played at your own funeral… planning ahead and all that.”
‘Today Is The Day’ by Yo La Tengo
Chosen by Briana from Monster Treasure: “Break-up song or not, it gives off that haunting nostalgic vibe that comes with reminiscing about old relationships for me. We love YLT. We saw them about ten years ago in LA, we felt literally high after the show and roamed around for about an hour, extremely giddy. We later ran into Georgia and Ira at a hot dog joint and literally ran away because we were so shocked/felt a little creepy. On the way out we nearly collided with James. I don’t think we ended up eating that night! Good memory!”
‘The Golden Age’ by Beck chosen by Tomm E. Williams from Go Primitive
‘A Salty Salute’ by Guided by Voices
Chosen by Aidan Razzall from Weirds: “Something about it really makes me sad. He had a great voice and that song has got a medieval sonnet feel to it – but kind of twisted and tripped out.”
‘Gotta Go My Own Way’ by Troy and Gabriella from High School Musical
Chosen by Bonnie Fraser from Stand Atlantic: “There’s no better way to handle a breakup than listening to this song, even Troy and Gabriella had a rough patch, things will get better!”
‘Don’t Think Twice, Its Alright’ by Bob Dylan
Chosen by Alex Marshall from Miss Vincent: “It’s a work of art and totally encapsulates breaking up.”
‘Sleeping Sickness‘ by City and Colour
Chosen by Lois from Drones: “When my first boyfriend broke up with me I remember my mate Phil picked me up and drove me around and we listened to City and Colour. I couldn’t listen to them for years afterwards… until I realised my ex was a massive wanker. Haha!”
‘Appointments’ by Julien Baker
Chosen by Becky from Milk Teeth: “It changes a lot. Lately it’s been appointments by Julien Baker. Can relate to that quite a bit.”
‘Boston‘ by Augustana
Chosen by Jack Ford from Echoic: “Not too sure how I heard this song originally, but I got obsessed with it as a teenager going through a bit of an emo phase haha!”
‘Screaming Infidelities‘ by Dashboard Confessional
Chosen by Laurent Barnard from Gold Key / Gallows: “I went through a sore break up a long time ago and listened to this song to death”
‘Fuck You‘ by Lily Allen chosen by Luke from Kill The Ideal
