Nostalgia plays a big part in music today, especially the older you get, which mean’s it’s nice when you hear a new band that takes you back to a different time in your life. That’s exactly what Chekhov’s Gun do on their debut track, ‘Higher Ground’. It calls to mind the early ’00s, when Hundred Reasons and Hell Is For Heroes reigned supreme, taking influence from across the Atlantic and making it their own.
Starting life as an instrumental band, remaining that way for a number of years, the band recruited former Exit Ten vocalist, Ryan Redman, bringing their songs to life in a new way. It’s a natural fit for their sound, which you can hear for the first time below.
“We’ve been writing music on-and-off for the last couple of years, so we’re really excited for everyone to finally hear it,” says Chekhov’s Gun bassist, Rob Barbour. “Lyrically, ‘Higher Ground’ addresses some pretty bleak subject matter but it’s wrapped up in an immediate melody. My favourite bands have always managed that trick – dark lyrics with a pop sensibility. And Ryan’s vocal melodies are always incredible. He’s one of my favourite British vocalists of the last 15 years, and it’s an honour to finally be able to collaborate with him. I hope everyone at Punktastic enjoys the song as much as we enjoy playing it!”
Chekhov’s Gun have a couple of shows coming up which are listed below, and you can keep up with them on Facebook for more music in the near future.
