We’ve got a premiere for you today from Chicago punks Otto Mann. To watch Otto Mann play is to see four young men get high on punk rock the way you used to. It will piss you off. And you will curse them while you scour Discogs for Latterman vinyl at 3 AM.
Their debut album ‘Lousy Weather‘ is out on September 10th. We’ve got ‘A Water Balloon Named Scabies‘ for you to listen to today. A track with that strange a title needs an explanation and vocalist Vince Abbate told us all about it.
“Written in the winter of 2013, I had just moved out of my parents’ house for the first time and into a cheap apartment in Humboldt Park. During a normal night of insomnia and stress, lying awake in my streetlight illuminated room, I couldn’t stop thinking of one of my friends in particular and how this friend lives above their means in a sort of day dream like state, chasing all those material possessions that mean nothing.” Abbate explained “As I reflected on my current situation, their current situation and our history together, I grew resentful of them. I wrote this song for and about people who live or desire to live that material world, reality show , fast cars, big bank accounts life. It’s a message for them to come back down to earth before it’s too late. And for them to realize the things in life that really matter like friends, family, compassion, giving and selflessness.”
