For many people, August bank holiday weekend is about one thing and one thing only, Reading & Leeds Festivals. What is seen as the final big UK festival of the summer, Reading & Leeds has a huge variation of genres represented over the weekend and this year is no different.
While headliners Kasabian, Eminem and Muse may not be the heaviest of bands there’s still a wealth of incredibly talented acts across the various stages, which include some of the best the rock scene has to offer, to ensure a great time for everyone.
For those who didn’t manage to get a ticket for the sold-out event, we’ll be bringing you all the action across the weekend on our social media accounts. For now, prepare yourself with our guide below:
Counterfeit
Friday, The Pit: 17:05 – 17:40
It’s been a huge year for London rockers Counterfeit; the guys released their debut album ‘Together We Are Stronger’ earlier this year and have followed it up with a string of epic live shows. With a huge following already you can expect The Pit to be full to the brim with adoring fans. Counterfeit deliver an incredibly raw and furious energy to their performances which never fails to disappoint.
Jimmy Eat World
Friday, Main Stage: 17:40 – 18:25
Arizona heroes Jimmy Eat World return to the Reading & Leeds Main Stage for the first time since 2014 and they will surely bring the good times with them with legendary tracks like ‘Bleed American’, ‘The Middle’ and ‘Salt, Sweat, Sugar’. Expect the huge crowd to have their singing voices prepped and ready to go.
Astroid Boys
Saturday, The Pit: 18:05 – 18:40
Welsh rap-come-metal outfit Astroid Boys know their way around a festival set like the back of their hands, having previously played Download and Slam Dunk among others. You can expect expertly delivered flows to a backdrop of some of the heaviest riffs around. Front-men Benji and Traxx will no doubt ensure that everyone in attendance leaves having moshed their hardest all weekend.
Marmozets
Saturday, NME / BBC Radio 1 Stage: 16:05 – 16:35
Yorkshire-based alternative rockers Marmozets exploded onto the scene in a huge way back in 2014. After the band built up a following touring the country they signed to Roadrunner Records and unleashed their debut record ‘The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets’. And you can expect all manner of weird and wonderfulness as they look to kick on with some new material in front of a huge crowd at the NME/Radio 1 stage.
Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes
Saturday, NME / BBC Radio 1 Stage: 16:55 – 17:25
If there’s one thing Frank Carter knows, it’s how to put on a live show. Exuding confidence and style, he commands his audience. With the band’s first two albums they have a wealth of material to pick from, ranging from the heavy sound of ‘Juggernaut’ to the more melodic ‘Lullaby’, making this a candidate for what could be the stand-out set of the weekend.
While She Sleeps
Saturday, The Pit: 22:30 – 23:30
Sheffield metal outfit While She Sleeps have had a huge year so far having self released arguably one of the best albums we’ve heard all year in ‘You Are We’. Their headline set at The Pit on Saturday night promises to be more than a headline slot; it’s a moment to rejoice in the band’s journey, proving that you don’t always need a huge record deal to succeed. The talent that these boys have in abundance is all they need.
PVRIS
Saturday, Main Stage: 14:25 – 15:25
Friday sees the long awaited release of PVRIS’ second album ‘All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell’ and what better way to celebrate than hitting the main stage at Reading & Leeds. The band’s first record catapulted them to huge success and based on what we’ve heard of the album so far, we’re in for a treat. You can expect the band to back this up with a massive performance that will evoke emotions you didn’t know were possible.
At The Drive In
Saturday, Main Stage: 17:05 – 17:50
At The Drive-in make a triumphant return to the Reading & Leeds main stage and bring with them their powerful and unpredictable live set. The guys pretty much created the alternative music genre with their release of ‘Relationship of Command’ and having release their first record in far too long last year with ‘in•ter a•li•a’, you can expect a career spanning set from the Texas band.
Korn
Saturday, Main Stage: 18:20 – 19:20
While metal bands may not be the most represented over the weekend, Korn are the biggest of the lot. Their set on the Main Stage promises to be an explosive one before we all get our dancing shoes on for Major Lazer and Eminem. Expect mosh pits a plenty as the legendary band look to remind everyone why they’re so loved.
Architects
Sunday, Main Stage: 16:30 – 17:10
Last but by no means least are Architects. Following the tragic loss of guitarist Tom Searle the band have been incredibly strong in powering on and have surely made Tom proud. Sunday’s appearance on the main stage is bound to evoke huge emotions from the band and fans alike. The metalcore outfit are sure to tear the stage apart in what will be a set not to be missed.
