Christmas is a time for giving, so we're giving you a playlist from some of our favourite bands who chose the songs that make them feel all warm and Christmassy.
‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ by Mariah Carey
The first track was chosen by Blindwish: “I had a friend in college that would play this song non-stop from Thanksgiving on. It just reminds me of Christmas at this point.”
‘Stay Another Day’ by East 17
Chosen by Chris Vernon from Canvas: “For the record I hate every Christmas song haha, but I guess East 17’s ‘Stay Another Day’ because no break up song captures the spirit of Christmas quite like it. That and the fluffy coats in the video were amazing.”
‘Good Luck It’s Christmas’ by Tellison
Chosen by Louis from Drones: “This is still my favourite Christmas song. It’s a bit depressing.. but it really hit home when I heard it the year it came out, and I still love listening to it.“
‘The Power of Love’ by Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Chosen by Becky from Milkteeth: “It was on a Christmas compilation CD my mum had when we were kids and I’d always skip to that one over the happy ones. Emo for life.“
‘Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!’ by Frank Sinatra
Chosen by Archie Cruz from Santa Cruz: “I mean, how many good Christmas songs are there? At least this one was in Die Hard, plus Sinatra’s the man.”
‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen
Chosen by Skies In Motion: “Dave’s family never used to watch the Queens speech at Christmas, they’d listen to Queen instead. This is a timeless classic. Not festive to everyone, but it is to Dave.”
’30 Days’ by Never Shout Never, chosen by Liam of Highlives
‘Feliz Navidad’ by Jose Feliciano
Chosen by Stefanie Mannaerts from Brutus: “It just never stops! Instant Christmas mode!”
‘Lonely This Christmas’ by Mud
Chosen by Alex Marshall from Miss Vincent: “We love it so much we’ve covered it!”
‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ by Wizzard
Chosen by Aidan Razzall from Weirds: “Ever since that Black Mirror episode though, the song has taken on a sinister connotation.”
‘Santa’s Compromise’ by Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet
Chosen by Briana from Monster Treasure: “Going with this one to pay homage to the Shadowy Men. You’re lucky I didn’t go with my first choice which was definitely Alvin & The Chipmunks’ “Christmas Don’t Be Late.” So let’s just dim the lights and chill the ham, shall we?”
‘I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas’ by Gayla Peevy, chosen by Shauna from Rews
‘Mistletoe’ by Justin Bieber
Chosen by Bonnie Fraser from Stand Atlantic: “Can’t fault it, it’s cheesy and beautiful.”
‘Fairytale of New York’ by The Pogues
Chosen by Lauren Barnard from Gold Key / Gallows: “This is a classic. I always look forward to hearing it this time of year.”
‘Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight)’ by The Ramones
Chosne by Paul Dokman from Paceshifters: “Great song with Christmas in the title so that should count, right?”
‘Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)’ by The Darkness
And our final track was chosen by Jack Ford from Echoic. “Best Christmas song has got to be this. The most rock and roll Christmas tune ever!”
