Stream the new record from The Earth & Me

By Maryam Hassan

The Earth & Me is a collection of individuals from Bristol UK, playing melancholic yet hopeful, (mostly) instrumental music which converges somewhere between the ambient soundscapes of post-rock; the intimacy and intricacy of late 90’s emo; and the urgency of punk rock.

The band – Dave Campbell (drums), Mike Young (bass), Nathaniel Stevens (guitar), Neil Sutherland (guitar) and Tom Vincer (keys) – cut their teeth on the UK DIY punk circuit, playing in bands including Caves, Rivalries and Crazy Arm. They came together as The Earth & Me in early 2014 with the intent of stepping beyond the confines of straight-ahead power-chords and 4/4 beats, and began honing their craft, drawing on the experiences of each other’s diverse songwriting abilities.

The result – The Earth & Me – offers a densely textured sound, combining heavily effected guitars, smooth and binding bass and key lines, and powerful, driving drums. In equal parts uplifting and introspective, thunderous and gentle, The Earth & Me provides the listener with atmospheric and dynamic journeys.
