It’s the end of the week and we have a treat for you. You can stream the new EP from MOLAR and Pale Kids right now on Punktastic. Two great new UK bands to start your weekend off with a bang. We asked both bands to tell us a little bit about their tracks and here’s what they had to say…
MOLAR
“We’re really proud of this Split EP and I think we all agree that it has some of our best stuff on it, and it’s a massive pleasure to release it alongside Pale Kids who are just so amazing!!!!!
We recorded these two songs with the legend that is Phil at JT Soar in Nottingham, it was our first time recording in a studio so we were all types of nervous and excited at the same time. The songs weren’t completely finished either so that gave us an opportunity to polish them and see what direction we wanted them to go in, sound-wise.
Sylvia is loosely based on a quote from “The Bell Jar” that reflects on the points in our lives where we find ourselves having to make some pretty big choices. Predictable is about dudes and their predictable bullshit behaviour.
Also special shout out to Su’s grandma for letting us use her beautiful picture in the inlay <3"
PALE KIDS
“It’s really nice and exciting that us and MOLAR are both new bands and we’re doing a split together. They’re amazing and they’ve been so nice to us. The first time we played a show with them, it was like going on a first date cos we were crushing on them so hard.
These songs were recorded by Danny Gibbons at Chicken Cottage in Durham on New Year’s Day 2016. It was mastered by Dave Williams at Eight Floors Above. ‘One Thing at a Time’ is about anxiety. ‘Consent’ is about consent.
The photo on our side of the inlay is from the cover of ‘Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit’ by Jeanette Wilson, which is a coming-of-age story about a lesbian girl who is adopted by evangelists from the Elim Pentecostal Church.
All hail the Pale Queen.”
