Track by track guide to Maypine’s ‘In the Back of My Mind’ EP

By Mark Johnson

Brighton’s pop-punk quintet Maypine release their latest EP ‘In the Back of My Mind’ on August 4 via Disconnect Disconnect Records and the band have given us an exclusive track by track guide of what to expect.

1. A Little Sooner
A Little Sooner is about feeling that your friends don’t notice how you’re feeling, that you’re missing the person you’re in love with, and going out and getting drunk to forget about it. It’s also about never having much luck, being a loser wishing you were cooler whilst wishing something better would come along quickly.

2. North/South Divide
North/South Divide will be our next single. This song is about loving someone but feeling that you’re letting them down. That you’re not good enough for them and that they deserve better. It was a central theme for me (Jase) when writing this record.

3. Inside Out
This one is about feeling distant from those closest to you but accepting that as we all grow and develop as people, we sometimes drift away from those we love. But that it’s okay because, at the end of the day, those people will always be there for you when you need them.

4. Never Far Apart
Never Far Apart is pretty self-explanatory and really speaks for itself. The song is about loss. Plain and simple.

5. Day After Day
The last track on the record harks back to the central theme of the EP which I would suggest is ‘Insecurities’. This song echoes the feeling that you’re disappointing the ones you love. You may not be, but in the back of your mind, you can’t shake the feeling that you’re not quite enough.
