Chicago is having a brilliant time music wise at the moment, you can go out pretty much any night of the week and see some fine Chicago bands playing in some brilliant dive bar venues across the city.
Typesetter aren’t Chicago natives but they’ve found a home here. Singer Alex Palermo explained “It feels like no-one is competing here. I feel like in smaller towns that happens more, people want to be the king of the castle. Here we all want to help each other out, everything is very levelled out. I love it.” Kyle agrees “Chicago is a pretend big city. If you really think about it the punk scene has a span of four square miles. We run into each other all over the place, and it’s really cool.”
That’s one of the things that makes Chicago amazing, community. Typesetter are releasing their new EP on Black Numbers and it’s coming out as a digital download and the physical release is something a little different. The band are collaborating with hot sauce company Soothsayer for a hot sauce release, that comes with a download code
“The idea of it is that we collaborated with him and it’s made by all of us. The label is the EP art and the sauce comes with a digital download code for the new songs and it’ll be sold on tour” Alex explained “We’re kind of a food band”.
“The hot sauce works well for our band because we’re a band that cares about food first and foremost. You need to feed us, we’ll drink and then we’ll play tunes” Kyle adds “our first meeting was we went to boiler room and got beer, a giant pizza and Kyle let us try all his favourite hot sauces he made. We talked about what we liked in hot sauce, beers and pizza and crafted an idea of what we’d want to eat in a hot sauce. So Kyle took our absurd ideas and took it into a hot sauce. There’s tequila in our hot sauce.”
